Civic Centre Complex - Central America

Sports Complex and Hurricane Shelter

We designed, fabricated, and shipped the steel frame, and cladding

for this sports complex.


It has two 50 meter running tracks, a skateboard park, an exterior

gym plaza, and an exterior stage area, as well as a court area with

an interior heigh of over 36ft suitable for competitive volleyball. In

addition to hosting professional games, the court area is large enough

to host three simultaneous practice courts.


We also installed a set of bleachers capable of seating 40 00 to 5000

spectators depending on the event.


On the river side of the building there is also a ware taxi pickup

area, a fast and new transportation feature that will allow new small

businesses to pick up and drop off customers.


We optimised the structural design, including the hot rolled sections

that we hot dip galvanised to help resist erosion and minimise

maintenance costs.


As part of our design the sports centre can also withstand wind

speeds of up to 160mph providing a place for local people to shelter

during hurricanes or seismic events. We also had to ensure the design

could withstand the weight a backup generator, water system in the

roof, and helipad in case o f emergency.
